University of Warsaw was the institution to co-host the 17th ICTA.
The roots of the University of Warsaw date back to the Napoleonic era, when in 1808-09 two educational institutions were established in Warsaw: the School of Law and the School of Medicine. In 1818 together with three other units: the Philosophical Faculty, the Theological Faculty and the Faculty of Sciences and Fine Art, they formed University of Warsaw. It was instituted thanks to the efforts of two eminent intellectual personalities of this era: rev. Stanisław Staszic and count Stanisław Kostka Potocki of Wilanów.
Today, the University of Warsaw is the largest university in Poland, with nearly 40,000 students and over 4,000 scholars. Studies are offered by 25 faculties and over 30 research units. Among them there are Oriental and Eastern studies, including those focusing on the culture and languages of the Muslim Orient.
