Instructions for Authors of the proceeding of the 17th International Congress of Turkish Art

  1. Delivery time prolonged and edition

The prolonged delivery time is the 30th of July 2025. All papers should be delivered in complete (with illustrations and captions) to the 17th ICTA email address (icta17@17icta.com)

As in previous years we plan to publish the volume with all contributions until the 18th ICTA (2027).

  1. Language

All papers should be delivered in English. [We assume that the papers will be proofread by a native speaker with a professional linguistic profile appropriate to the topic of the article before delivery.]

  1. File

All papers with illustrations should be delivered in one file in two formats: word [doc or docx] and pdf.

  1. Content

All papers should comprise in order as below:

  • Name of the author + title
  • Main text (with footnotes)
  • Bibliography (comprising all cited publications)
  • Personal information: current email address, affiliation, academic or professional title of the author
  • List of illustrations with captions
  • Abstract in Turkish
  • 5-10 keywords

All the content listed above should be included in one file (doc/docx + pdf).

  1. Length

The length of the paper should be no less than 9.000 characters with spaces and no more than18.000 characters with spaces (including footnotes, but excluding Bibliography)

  1. Illustrations

There should be no more than 12 illustrations attached to the paper, including maps and diagrams (full-colour or black and white).

The illustrations should be delivered together with the paper, in a good quality, high resolution scan (jpg).

The place of the illustration in the text of the paper should be indicated with use of abbreviation Fig. or Figs. in square brackets (as [Fig. 1] or [Figs. 1-3]).

The captions to the illustrations – listed in the ‘List of illustrations’ at the end of your paper – should include the source of the illustration and name of the institution/person which has granted reproduction rights. If the illustration is reproduced from another publication, the source must be provided in accordance with the citation rules.

Authors are responsible for obtaining all permissions to reproduce illustrations if needed. Written evidence of copyright clearance may be required.

  1. Style guidelines
  • Font and size
    The papers should be typed with use of Times New Roman size 12, with 1,5 line spacing.
  • Internal delimitation
    Internal delimitations are suggested in case of papers with complex content. Delimitation may be marked by numbering of paragraphs or using subheadings.
  • Quotations
    Short quotations should be embedded in the text. They should be set in Roman type and marked with single (English) quotation marks.
    Long quotations (longer than two lines) should be separated within the text as a  by extra vertical space, and marked by smaller type size, without quotations marks.
  • Omitted parts of quoted text
    Omitted words or passages in the quoted texts should be indicated by three dots between square brackets: […]
  • Transliteration (transcription)
    ISO transcription system is recommended for Arabic texts.

Ottoman Turkish alphabet:
ā/a/ö, b, p, t, s, c, ç, ḥ, ḫ, d, z, r, z, s, ş, ṣ, ż, ṭ, ẓ, ‘, ğ/g, f, ḳ, k, ñ/g, l, m, n, ū-ü/v, ī, y, ı.

Persian/Arabic alphabet:
ā/a/i/u, b, p, t, s, ǧ, č, ḥ, ḫ, d, z, r, z, ž, s, š, ṣ, ż, ṭ, ẓ, ‘, ġ, f, q, k, g, l, m, n, ū/w, ī, y.

  1. Bibliographical references

The Harvard (author-date) system should be used for bibliographical citing references. The references should be embedded in the text, in regular brackets as follows: author’s surname + date of publication + page number separated by colon, eg. (Grabar 1978:15).

The bibliographical references should conform the 16th ICTA instruction:
