As we informed in the 1st Circular, interested participants after the Congress will have opportunity to visit museum exhibitions in Krakow presenting Ottoman art in the culture of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and Polish-Lithuanian Tatar settlements in Podlasie region (north-eastern Poland) on September 22 (Kraków) and September 23 (Tatar villages).
In Krakow, we plan to visit the exhibition at the Wawel Royal Castle dedicated to Islamic art, presenting, among others, collection of imperial Turkish tents from the 17th century, and the recently opened Crown Treasury, which presents e.g. Ottoman-Polish ceremonial equestrian equipment. We will also visit the Princes Czartoryski Museum with re-arranged permanent exhibition presenting e.g. splendid Ottoman armaments. The full-day tour will start and end in Warsaw (September 22).
The next day’s tour will be dedicated to the phenomenon of the Polish-Lithuanian Tatars cultural heritage. We will visit historic wooden mosques and cemeteries from the 17th century, in the Tatar villages of Bohoniki and Kruszyniany in Podlasie founded by King Jan III Sobieski. Participants will have opportunity to learn about Tatar manuscripts, inscriptions, history as well as culinary traditions preserved since the times of emigrants from the Golden Horde. The full-day tour will start and end in Warsaw too (September 23).
